Designing a Turning Guide Vane Using CFD for an Economizer of a Non-Furnace Boiler

Non-furnace boilers can improve the efficiency of industrial once-through boilers. However, temperature non-uniformity occurs in economizer connected vertically to boiler. Heat transfer performance is degraded by non-uniformity. To solve this problem, a corbel was installed on side wall economizer, and baffle transition duct. Consequently, although thermal boiler improved, significant still observed area upstream economizer. address issue, study designed turning guide vane (TGV) at inlet using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). First, CFD performed for case without with an existing installed. By analyzing streamlines obtained CFD, two TGV designs were proposed. In first design, vanes along desired streamline, concept followed. second attempt made minimize pressure drop arranging inlet. Both reduced standard deviation more than 30% improved volume goodness factor 25%.
